Seller note:

MORGAN Out Island 41, "LUNA INDIGO" (Purple Moon), Center Cockpit for crew comfort and safety, ideal for up to 12 passengers. This design combines good visibility for the helmsman with seats for everybody when underway. It is also a primary center for socializing. The cockpit enclosure with all around, clear, roll up window panes, provides all weather capability thus extending the season and also provides additional living space. Wide side decks lead to an open expanse before the mast, more than enough room on which to secure a 14 ft. dinghy underway or to pose a bevy of suntanned bodies for wish-you-were-here photo. A video of her sailing ability is available on DVD for serious inquirers and it will be mailed out with a brochure of this boat also.
If buyer requires I can be available to sail together a few time to instruct on sailing and on the systems aboard the yacht. It is one of the easiest boat to sail or handle.

Tall two masted, triple sails, ketch model for easy sailing, a blue water cruising yacht, manufactured by Morgan Yacht Corporation under Coast Guard specification for more than six passengers, the Rolls Royce of cruising sailboats. Recent modification to the sail system is the DUCTCHMAN Sail Flaking System with full battens both in the main and the mizzen sails. Two reefing system in the main and one in the mizzen combined with 160% , 8 oz. Dacron Genoa on PROFURL N42 jib furling and reefing system provides infinite variation of 775 sq. ft. of sail for all wind condition. The shallow draft, modified-full keel hull (42 or 46 fully loaded) housing 9,000 # of lead ballast, provides good tracking with its full skeg-hung rudder and also permits access to delightful but shallow-water coves. It is one of the safest sailboat design with very forgiving sailing ability. During extended sailing we use NAVICO Wheelpilot WP--5000 auto pilot to either follow a compass course or use the optional windwane to follow the wind course. This works very well with our hydraulic assisted steering. The optional hand programmer duplicate control HP 5000 reaches both the main cabin or the aft cabin for course correction or change heading without being at the helm station in the cockpit.
Similar, almost identical cruising boat design available in new construction, from Island Packet Yachts, but at an immense premium price.
The Morgan construction is of several, thick layers of hand laid fiberglass, a really heavy duty design for blue water use. The displacement is 27,000 # ( 30,000 # fully loaded) which makes her very stable with comfortable, easy movement even in heavy seas. Mooring charters in the Virgin Islands and in the Mediterranean Sea had almost 1,000 Morgan O/I 41s in service.
There is some misinformation around, mainly that the hand laid fiberglass develops blisters. The truth is that in the 1970s the epoxy was tar based which is more permeable than the modern epoxy if the boat is left in the water several years. This is not the case if the boat hauled in the winter months for dry storage. So if one plans for extended blue water sailing then certain precaution should be taken. So one needs a competent surveyor to check out the hull, which is the most important part of a well preserved yacht. IMPORTANT PART: which separate the Luna Indigo from other boats of the same vintage.
We were planning for an extended blue water voyage so we had surveyed our boat by Peter Hartaft of Annapolis and consulted with engineers of the West Epoxy System. The advise was that if we sand the hull and apply 3 coats of West Epoxy then the hull will be protected for 5-6 years in the water then dry store on the hard for 3-6 months before putting back into the water again. But if you apply the full 12 layers of West Epoxy system with different additives in the epoxy for each layer then the hull will be protected for lifetime use. We did apply the full 12 coats onto the hull and rudder. The last 3 layers had copper-oxide additive mixed with the West System epoxy, which creates additional antifouling properties for tropical climate. However it is still best to apply antifouling, ablative paint. We have applied one coat of shark white ablative paint, then cover the hull with 3 more layers of blue ablative paint. This way one can sail for several years and when the white starts showing through then it is time to haul the boat and apply more layers again. This was the most important part of a major upgrade plan where we spent upward of $ 28,000 for refurbishing, upgrades and improvements. List of upgrades will be provided upon serious request. The list is several pages long. (Pdf file) Or call Emery Toth [removed phone]. E-mail: [removed email].
The model 415 is a great layout, suitable for several couples, large families or live aboard. It is almost unbelievable the amount of living and storage place down below. This model, the 415, has walk-through passageway, 72 headroom with keel-stepped masts. This boat just had a new teak-&-holly floor installed throughout below in 2007.
The master cabin aft has a queen-sized athwart-ship bed with 5 opening ports and a hatch for great ventilation. The walk-through passageway to the aft cabin has a door for privacy. But the master cabin also has direct access to the cockpit by a sliding hatch and teak ladder.. Hanging locker and storage drawers provides lots of storage. The master cabin also has its separate private head with shower secured by a door. It is very well ventilated by a hatch and an opening port. The spacious forward cabin has two 7 ft
V-berth, hanging locker, plenty of storage drawers. A large open hatch and two bronze opening ports for ample ventilation. Chain/line locker is forward of V-berth.
Aft of that located a large size head on port side (left ) with shower, stowage drawers and lockers, also a dressing room on starboard side ( right) with hanging locker separated by two double function doors for private access from either the forward cabin or the main salon. It is ventilated by an overhead hatch and an opening port. The doors can also close the head only providing through passage to the forward cabin The commodious main cabin/salon has the L-shaped galley on port side with 12 ft of counter space, double S/S sink, S/S alcohol or propane 3 burner and oven stove, cloth washer and refrigerator/freezer in top loading icebox. A separate refrigerator/freezer installed under the navigation station aft of the galley.
On the port side hanging locker, a U-shaped settee with large table for 6 which when lowered converts into a double berth. Lockers and storage shelves around it.
The engine room is centerline and access door on the port side from the passageway.
The engine has 750 hrs use to date. The Nissan SD-22 has wet cylinder lining to facilitate overhaul when required around 8-10,000 hours. Parts are available easily. The Nissan/Chrysler 50 HP diesel, 2.2L (2164 cc) is fuel efficient, uses 0.57 quarts/ per hour at cruising speed and with a full tank of 140 gallons has a range of 950 miles. Even at present diesel price the cruising by engine cost about $ 2 per hour. I knew a couple of delivery captains who said that they turned on the engine, pulled up the sails in the US east coast and in 6-7 days later they pulled into St. Thomas harbor in the US Virgin Islands
